Unibus, the speedy transit bus system chartered by the Universtiy of Manitoba Students' Union, enters its fourth year of operation this year.
After three years of modification, the routes and schedules will remain the same as last year. Transit buses will be used on all routes and will service Fort Rouge, River Heights, Crescentwood, Riverview, St. Boniface, the North End, and Fort Richmond.
The bus system brought a rush of protest from River Heights residents when it was first instituted in September, 1970. Residents on Lindsay Street were especially vehement in their demands that the service on Lindsay Street be cancelled.
However, the former Metro Council refused to alter the Unibus route.
Unibus provides acsess to the Fort Garry campus from areas which experience poor public transportation service to the campus.
University officials say it has been instrumental in lowering the heavy demand on the already strained parking facilities on campus.
