Greater Winnipeg's longest bus trip will go into operation Sunday a circuitous 45-minute, 9.75 mile route, from the northeast city limits on Talbot Ave. to Grant and Lindsay in southwest Fort Rouge.
The route will take the place of the present Talbot-River run which the Greater Winnipeg Transit Commission found duplicated the Crescent service. It was approved by the public safety committee of council Wednesday.
The Academy-East Kildonan run made by some buses during rush hours is .2 miles shorter and the regular Portage and Main route is .8 miles shorter. Others are: St. Mary's-Ellice, eight miles; Selkirk-Corydon, 8.1; Osborne-McGregor, 7.3.
The new route: From Bird's Hill Road on Talbot St. to the Louise Bridge, through the downtown area on Princess and Donald St., over the Midtown bridge, along South Donald St., Corydon Ave., Stafford, Dudley, Nathaniel, Lorette, Grant and west on Grant to Lindsay. The return will follow the same streets.
To determine where the south portion of the line would run transit officials conducted a survey among residents of the only two residential streets on the line, Dudley and Lorette.
