Edward Anderson, K.C., is retiring as president of the Winnipeg Electric Company, to become chairman of the board. W. H. Carter becomes president after being vice-president and C. S. Riley becomes vice-president after being a director, it is announced today.
In retiring as president, Mr. Anderson leaves behind him a notable record of business achievement. His feat in carrying through the reorganization of the capital structure of the Winnipeg Electric in 1936 won admiration in financial circles all over Canada. His eleven years in office spanned the depression and placed on him the burden of responsibility for the company in probably its most difficult years. Yet in spite of these external handicaps he has succeeded in leaving the company stronger both in finances and public esteem than when he took office.
The new president and vice-president of the company, Mr. Carter and Mr. Riley, have long been among the most prominent business men of this city, and are highly regarded in business circles both east and west. As officers of the Winnipeg Electric for a number of years they are thoroughly familiar with its operations and may be counted on to continue the constructive policies that have so benefited the company and the community in recent years.
