Winnipeggers will have to wait longer for a rapid transit bus system after Mayor Sam Katz yesterday pulled the $50 million earmarked to launch the project.
Exactly how much longer is not clear.
"Right now it's all about priorities, and that's where I'm going," Katz said yesterday.
Instead of rapid transit, most of the money ($43 million) will go to community centres and clubs. The remaining $7 million will be used to improve the transit system.
While Katz says the city will eventually have bus rapid transit (BRT), supporters of the concept fear it is dead.
