To all transit staff:
This Friday will be my last day at work, before I take some vacation time prior to my official retirement in January of next year. This may well come as a surprise to you. In fact, it has been a bit sudden. it has become apparent to me that I have a fundamentally different value system than that of the mayor and his staff. As a result, I have determined that continuing in my position as director of transit has become counterproductive to the effectiveness of the transit department.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my 37.5 years of service with the City of Winnipeg, and my 24.5 years as director of transit. In particular, I have enjoyed my relationship with each and every one of you. In my opinion, Winnipeg Transit has a great workforce, and together we have made great improvement tooour transit system. I believe that we are currently providing the best possible transit service to the citizens of Winnipeg, in view of the current constraints.
I wish you all the best, and hope that the future treats Winnipeg Transit well. The citizens of Winnipeg and the staff of Winnipeg transit, deserve better. They deserve to have a great city with a healthy and vibrant downtown — one that will occur when council decides that improved transit and a rapid transit system is a priority.
